little star

i've been busy. i promise. the latest piece i've been working on over the last couple of weeks is finally finished. it's just one i did for fun. and it's part of a bigger and better project i'm working on in the background. (more to come on this in the coming weeks, i hope!)

twinkle, twinkle is the latest piece. it's no secret that i find a lot of my inspiration in childrens spaces and places and designs....and a huge amount of my ideas come from time i spend with my little guy. so naturally, when i spend a lot of time singing "twinkle, twinkle, little star" to my little guy, there had to be a way to bring this to life.

so here started a piece of wall art, with a little twinkle in its stars. i started with a 20" x 20" canvas, and a little blue acrylic paint. (i used the delta ceramcoat brand in coral reef blue which worked great. great coverage with just two coats.) (oh, and a hint here, i also masked off the edges on the back of the canvas. i probably could have free-handed the edges, but no use risking it.)

next step: figuring out exactly what i wanted to do with stars, some glittery goodness, some textures and the twinkle, twinkle. so i started where i always do, sketching and checking out my cricut cartridges for the fonts and stars i could use. i settled on one of the basics...the plantin schoolbook cartridge for the fonts and most of the stars. (i did also recruit some help from my jubilee cartridge for another different looking star....i wanted to have a bit of variation.)

for my stars, i wanted to vary up the colors...a soft yellow, deeper blue and white scrapbook papers were all used...stars were cut in various sizes from 6-1/2" down to 1-3/4"

just the stars weren't enough though...i also wanted to add a little texture and slight dimension to the piece. enter in the cuttlebug v2 and the polka dot embossing folder to give a little something to just a couple of our stars.

and last but not least, i had to add a little star sparkle with a couple of clear rhinestone brads.

something adorable and cute that can be used in a little one's bedroom, playroom or play space.

here's to adding a little twinkle to your space,

ash
